Lupine Gardens (Non-profit)
Wald, Ruhnke and Dost Architects was retained by Interim Inc. to provide architectural design services for this project consisting of 21 studio apartments, a community room, administrative offices, counseling office, kitchen and support facilities. Interim Inc. is a non-profit organization that provides housing and support services throughout Monterey County for individuals with mental and emotional illnesses. WR&D has worked with Interim Inc. for more than 20 years.
This project is located on a major arterial street. A courtyard was developed to reduce noise levels and provide private outdoor space for the residents. The rear portion of the development backs up to a residential neighborhood, thus the design and siting of the buildings required careful planning for proper integration into the existing neighborhood.
The project was designed to conform with ADA, CBC and Federal accessibility requirements. It was funded by HUD, State funding sources and various local grants.
