Abrego Office Building
Wald, Ruhnke & Dost Architects was retained by a private developer to provide architectural services for a new office/retail building to be built on the corner of Abrego and Fremont Streets in Monterey, California.
The former gas station site was transformed into one of the most prominent corners of downtown Monterey, serving as an entrance to the busy area of town. The new building was moved closer to the street and a tower element was added to create a landmark appeal and achieve a more pedestrian-oriented, street-front appearance. The building was designed to complement the adjacent San Carlos School, incorporating cast stone and copper gutters to establish an eclectic Spanish Mediterranean style.
