Del Monte Mixed Use

Monterey, CA

This mixed-use project is located on the corner of a busy intersection that is a gateway into the City's downtown area. To the rear of the project is a residential district consisting of both single family and multifamily homes. It was important that the building create a noise and visual buffer between the road and the residences, yet respect the scale and design of the surrounding neighborhood.

The brick, glass, steel and plaster exterior was selected to reflect the image of the modern European Furniture Store that occupies the entire first floor retail area. The upper floor contains eight one- and two-bedroom apartments. The lower floor is made up of 7,000 square feet of retail space and one accessible apartment unit. The accessible apartment reflects a bungalow style and visually ties the project to the neighborhood on the residential street front.
