307 Main Street
This particular project in Old Town Salinas involved a complete interior renovation of one of the area's original office buildings on Main Street, with the goal of bringing more light and space into the structure.
To accomplish this, Wald, Ruhnke & Dost's Interior Design Division designed and managed the creation of a new three-story atrium. Each floor of the atrium features a different material such as wood paneling, metallic paint and a metal grid to create individualized looks. The flooring on the ground level is highly polished textured tile in a neutral color, which allows the eye to focus upward. Glass panels at the stair cases further open the space. Three existing skylights were treated with curved translucent panels to diffuse the incoming light. These efforts produced a more inviting space and one more attractive to the building's prospective tenants, thereby creating added value for the building's owner.
